Mosque „Isa Beg“

Constructed between 1475 and 1476, the mosque was commissioned by Isa Bey, a prominent Ottoman commander and grandson of Pasha Yiğit Bey, the conqueror of Skopje. Isa Bey is also credited with founding the cities of Sarajevo and Novi Pazar. (macedoniaphotostories.blogspot.com)

Architecturally, the mosque is distinguished by its two identical main domes, a porch adorned with five smaller domes, and a monumental marble entrance. The interior underwent significant restoration in 1966 following the 1963 earthquake, which had caused substantial damage to the original structure. (fr.wikipedia.org)

Adjacent to the mosque stands a 550-year-old plane tree, believed to have been planted around the same time as the mosque's construction. This tree is considered the oldest in Skopje and is protected as a natural monument. (wanderlog.com)

The mosque's complex once included a madrasa (religious school), an imaret (public kitchen), and a library housing over 320 handwritten books, making it one of the largest libraries in the 15th century. (thefreelibrary.com) Today, the mosque remains an active place of worship and a significant historical landmark in Skopje.
